Clay (Spanish) Tile Roofs
How Much Does It Cost To Put A Clay Roof On Your Home?
Do you like clay tile roofs? They look very nice, and yes, they are a little more expensive than asphalt shingles and some other roofing choices. Yet they look luxurious, are long lasting and really work to protect a home. How much does a clay tile roof cost? First, did you know that there are different types of tile roofs? You need to keep that in mind as you look at the national averages for the type of roof that you want. A clay tile roof is going to look gorgeous on your home.
As for tile roofs in general, the national average right under $12k. To me, that seems a little on the low end. Granted, they can cost as much as $30k. Maybe I’m thinking about the more high end clay tile roofs. You see, there is a house in my mom’s neighborhood that stands out from the rest because it has a clay tile roof, the same one that has been on the home for decades. It is a doctor’s house, and it looks really nice.
Let me first say that clay tile roofs look great on brick homes. They look great on any home, but they certainly do look great on brick homes. However, you want to get the right color combination going, and that can affect your choice of materials, too. As mentioned, there are other types of tile roofs to choose from, but the clay tiles are widely popular. You have color choices when it comes to clay tiles for sure.
I mentioned that the national average for a tile roof is right under $12k. On the low end, it says you can pay as little as $6604. Say what? It really does make me wonder if that figure has anything to do with clay tiles. Most people can’t get a new shingle roof put on their home for that price. However, one reputable source does break it down into squares, which represents 100 square feet. The average price per square would be about $750.
Have you seen the barrel tiles? These are what I’m thinking are on the doctor’s house I mentioned. They look so nice, and they are a little more expensive. As a matter of fact, they can cost as much as $6 a square foot. That’s a pretty hefty price tag, but you can bet that roof is going to last a long time. I certainly don’t think the doctor plans to replace his roof anytime soon, and as mentioned, that roof has been on his home for decades.
Clay tile roofs are an excellent choice. You do have to be sure than one of these roofs is an affordable option for you. With prices ranging so widely, it can help to speak to a roofing contractor. It could be that you don’t want to go with one of the more expensive options, but you can still fit a clay roof into your budget. It sure would look very nice on your home.
